As an example of the events that are available to ALCC Members, the Ryder Cup has become one of the anticipated events for many.  The event began in 2006 when two groups of members - who regularly compete in Skins games on the clubs Men's Night, began a heated debate over which of the two groups had the superior golfers.
The "White Shirts" (named for their matching white shirts at the inaugural event) - captained by Bob Larson challenged "The Dark Siders" (nicknamed such by their opponents) to a head-to-head Ryder Cup format, Match Play event. After the series of first-ever matches, the more senior members of the White Shirts won the inaugural event and took home the cherished Ryder Cup trophy. In celebration at the post-event barbecue, Captain Bob Larson and other members of the White Shirts squad drank from the Ryder Cup dish in front of their disheartened opponents, and a rivalry was born.

Dark Siders team captain Mike Weber quickly called a meeting with his squad and preperations began to win back the trophy, and to make the Ryder Cup an annual event.

The following year in 2007 a renewed and re-motivated Dark Siders team - once again captained by Mike Weber - were victorious by the slimmest of margins. They retained "The Cup" by a 1 point victory in 2008 and 2009.
After retaining once more in 2010 with a 10-10 performance they finally succumb to a superior White Shirt team in 2011 by a score of 9-8.  The overall standings have the Dark Siders with a 4-2 edge.

Each year, many members participate in the weekly men's night and skins games in hopes of finding themselves a place as part of a Ryder Cup team.

The Ryder Cup golf, food, drinks, and fine association are one of the highlights at the American Legion Country Club.
